Working together to build a better future for aquaculture

We are still processing some of the things we learned at Aqua Nor last month. We met up with a lot of old customers, saw quite a few new faces and, just as importantly, were able to immerse ourselves in the latest trends driving the aquaculture market.

Except for a few drops of rain on opening day, we had a week of sunshine in Trondheim, Norway. We were able network again with our closest clients and key partners, as well as share experiences with other fish farmers, aquaculture suppliers, industry researchers, professionals, and technicians. More than 16,000 people visited Aqua Nor at the Trondheim Spektrum from August 24-27, all wanting to be part of the world's most important aquaculture technology trade fair.

Billund Aquaculture's sales director Marius Hægh and operations manager Bjarne Olsen, were among the company executives that were kept very busy at our booth over an intense four days attending to customers and participating in back-to-back meetings. They commented that while there were fewer overseas attendees this year there was a strong Scandinavian presence, especially, representatives from the productive sector.

“We were very satisfied with the turnout, even though there were fewer people than normal due to the Covid-19 situation. We had a steady flow of visitors at our booth the whole time,” said Sondre Høidalen, CEO of Billund Aquaculture Norway.

A promising future

Aqua Nor 2021 took place in a hybrid format for the first time this year, which enabled us to interact with many of those who could not be physically present. More than 8,000 visitors, many from countries very far away from Norway, connected to our digital platform.

We received valuable feedback from both face-to-face meetings and online conversations on the future of aquaculture, in particular, strong support for our investments in recirculation systems for aquaculture (RAS) and grow-out.

Marius Hægh commented, “we saw great interest in our technologies and expect strong and continuous demand for our solutions.” Bjarne Olsen added that “the use of RAS technology for smolt and, especially, post-smolt production is a fast-growing trend.” The executives agreed that the common thread throughout both production stages is even more sustainable and efficient production.
