Billund Aquaculture captivates visitors at Aqua Sur 2024

As well as giving Aqua Sur attendees a close-up experience of RAS technology, Billund Aquaculture showcased some of the main projects it has designed in Chile and worldwide.

Billund Aquaculture had the opportunity to showcase some of its newest and most efficient innovations implemented in this industry during the Aqua Sur trade fair held from March 19 - 21 in Puerto Montt, Chile.

Some 22,000 people visited the three-day event, the largest aquaculture show in the southern hemisphere, many of whom passed by Billund's stand D-28 to learn more about our technologies and projects, to field questions and share their experiences.

Experience

One of the main draws of our stand was a scale model of a Billund Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) as well an immersive tour of a RAS module using virtual reality glasses.

Billund Chile's CEO Marcelo Varela commented, "We were delighted to be able to offer our visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in our RAS technology using cutting edge interactive tools. This unique experience caught the attention of everyone who visited our stand as it gave them a more tangible appreciation of how our solutions are transforming aquaculture."

He added, "Visitors spent more time at our stand than in previous years and engaged in fruitful conversations and discussions around RAS. These interactions were mutually beneficial, enabling visitors to get a more in-depth knowledge and understanding of the systems we develop while allowing us to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to encouraging discussions around how to advance technology in our industry."

Bigger and better

Now in its twelfth year, Aqua Sur surpassed previous records in terms of the number of visitors (over 22,000) and size. Located for the first time on the premises of logistics company Terminales Marítimos de la Patagonia (TMP), there were 17,000 m² of floor space for the over 480 exhibitors, 1,800 brands, and 20 participating countries.

The larger number of visitors than previous years brought fresh insight into the trends, challenges, and outlook for Chilean aquaculture, especially for land-based salmon farming in southern Chile.

Our global commercial manager, Bjarne Olsen, commented, "It was very satisfying to meet up with and receive such kind support from so many long-standing clients and friends with whom I have worked for so many years and who have accompanied Billund on its long journey. It was also invaluable to come across new faces, exchange ideas on the European market and the trends that the industry is currently undergoing in Chile. At the same time, meeting face to face with our entire Billund Chile team added a lot of value to this year's event."
